Capitalizing on its long-cultivated crystal growth and sintering control technologies, Tateho Chemical Industries Co., Ltd. successfully commercialized silicon carbide whiskers and silicon nitride whiskers from 1981 to 1982.
Although the mass production of whiskers had been deemed difficult, Tateho achieved it, with its unique technology.
Whiskers are low-defect, fine, short-fiber crystals and have extremely high-strength.
For this reason, whiskers have high strength, high elasticity, and high hardness and excel in heat and corrosion resistance, being used as reinforcing material for composite materials of ceramics, metals, and plastics.

  • When used as reinforcing material for composite materials, SilarR products, characterized by their high aspect ratios, improve mechanical properties of composite materials.
  • Silar® products are chemically stable and excel in thermal conductivity.
  • Being insoluble, Silar® products can be used with fluoropolymer and ceramics in direct contact with foods.
  • Dispersible in water, Silar® products can be used with fluoropolymer emulsion.
  • Silar® products are characterized by very high permittivity and loss tangent
  • Reinforcing material for cutting-tool-use hard ceramics(for turbines and jet engines)

The Application

The Silar® Microwave Grill, an innovative ceramic composite microwave heatable oven insert, revolutionizes microwave cooking. Silar’s new microwave-conduction cooking allows food to cook both on top and on the underside evenly and uniformly. The Silar Microwave Grill rises to cooking temperatures in as little as five seconds, and can reduce cook times by up to 90%.
